Laugh like maitreya

[Intro – spoken gently] Why do you laugh, Maitreya, When the world can bring us pain? Why do you smile through loss and sorrow, Through sunshine and through rain? 彌勒佛 smiles and says: 「世間萬物，本來無我所有。」 Nothing in this world truly belongs to me. So why hold so tightly? Ha… ha… ha… let it go. [Verse 1] There sits Maitreya with a belly so round, Laughing at the troubles that are spinning around. People chase silver, people chase gold, Trying to keep things they can never hold. A house is borrowed, A fortune will pass, Youth is a visitor That never will last. Even this body changes every day, So why let possessions steal your peace away? Maitreya laughs: 哈哈哈哈！ Not because suffering isn't real, But because wisdom knows When to hold And when to release. [Pre-Chorus] Open your hands, Open your heart. Nothing was yours From the very start. Love what arrives, Release what must go. Walk through this world With a heart that can grow. [Chorus] Laugh like Maitreya! 哈哈哈哈！ Let the heavy burdens fall. Smile like Maitreya! 彌勒佛啊！ You don't need to own it all. When somebody insults you, Don't answer hate with hate. Make your heart a little wider, Don't let anger choose your fate. Nothing belongs to us forever, Everything comes and goes. So laugh, forgive and carry on— That's the wisdom Maitreya knows. [Verse 2] I asked him: “Maitreya, how can you laugh When people treat you wrong?” He said: “Why carry someone's anger And make their burden your own?” If they give you hatred And you don't receive, Who keeps the hatred? The one who wouldn't leave. So breathe. Let pride disappear. You don't have to win Every argument you hear. A peaceful heart is richer Than a palace filled with gold. And the person who can forgive Carries treasure that cannot be sold. [Chorus] Laugh like Maitreya! 哈哈哈哈！ Let the heavy burdens fall. Smile like Maitreya! 彌勒佛啊！ You don't need to own it all. Lose some money? Let it go. Someone insults you? Let it go. Plans fall apart? Begin again. Your heart is worth more Than winning in the end. [Verse 3 – Maitreya's Lesson] Big belly means: Make room for the world. Big smile means: Don't let bitterness rule. An open bag means: Carry what helps others. Empty hands mean: Remember what is true. I came with nothing. One day I'll leave with nothing. Between those two moments I have one precious choice: What kind of person Will I become? Will I collect possessions? Or will I collect compassion? Will I remember every insult? Or will I remember How to love? [Bridge – quiet, then building] When life says: “You lost.” Maitreya laughs. When pride says: “Fight!” Maitreya smiles. When greed says: “More!” Maitreya opens his hands. When anger says: “Remember what they did!” Maitreya says: “Forgive.” Because letting go Doesn't make you weak. Sometimes letting go Is the greatest strength. [Chinese Chant / Breakdown] 大肚能容，容天下難容之事； 開口便笑，笑世間可笑之人。 彌勒佛，教我慈悲， 彌勒佛，教我放下。 不爭， 不貪， 不恨， 不怕。 心寬， 自在， 慈悲， 歡喜。 哈哈哈哈！ [Final Chorus – powerful and joyful] I wanna laugh like Maitreya! Even when the storm clouds rise. I wanna love like Maitreya! See compassion through my eyes. I don't need to own the mountain, I don't need to own the sea. I don't even own tomorrow— So today my heart is free. Laugh like Maitreya! 哈哈哈哈！ Give without demanding praise. Live like Maitreya! With compassion through your days. When the world becomes too heavy, Put the burden down awhile. You cannot control everything— But you can choose your smile. [Outro – spoken] Nothing belongs to me. So there is nothing I need to desperately hold. Nothing lasts forever. So I will treasure What is here today. People may misunderstand me. I will still choose kindness. Life may not follow my plans. I will still walk forward.
