Las Vegas Hotels Must Show the Full Price. So Why the Fee?

Las Vegas hotels must show you the total price up front. So why is the resort fee still its own line on your bill? A federal rule that took effect on May 12, 2025 requires hotels to show the total price before you book. Yet at Las Vegas hotels the resort fee ($45 to $55 a night at the hotels we checked) is still listed as its own line. This video walks through what the rule changed (what must be displayed, not a ban on the fee), how resort fees began, and a labelled ESTIMATE of what the fee adds up to across the Strip, with every step of the math shown. Our own read: because the fee is a fixed amount, it did not fall at the hotels we checked while average room rates did, so it takes a bigger share of what guests pay.
