My team was patient on offense looking for high quality shots all game and it helped prevent some potential run outs for UMass in transition. We also unusually shot the ball really well from 3 and it was going our way all game too. Our defense played a role in giving us a that double digit lead, but I felt my team gave up some easy points in transition at times and we we're getting beat off the dribble more than usual as well. Overall, my defense played well and I thought our rotations defensively were sharp, but I think it's more of a credit to UMass for making smart decisions with the ball and it's a testament to their talent for making some tough shots when they needed to, even though we didn't force them into low shooting percentages in that game. To finish out the non conference schedule, we go on the road to face another good team in the Virginia Cavaliers. We're facing another up tempo team but they also run a 3-2 zone on defense as their primary defense in the half court, so that could give us a bit of a challenge. Based on the way my team has been playing lately, I'm not too worried about their zone defense because I think we do pass the ball on the perimeter well enough, and my team is better at attacking the basket than shooting 3's. All we got to do on offense is to move the ball around without turning it over and attack the gaps in the zone when we see an opportunity. Because we didn't shutdown UMass completely like we wanted to in the last game, we're gonna lock in and try to be even better this game. Even more so since Virginia runs a 3-2 zone defense, we need to get stops and force turnovers in this game to get in transition easily so they can't get set up in their 3-2 zone properly.
