The CIA's Serial Killer

On August 9, 1991, investigative journalist Danny Casolaro was found butchered in a West Virginia motel room, his tendons slashed so deeply that his hands were rendered entirely useless. Local authorities rushed to rule it a suicide, but Casolaro was days away from blowing the lid off "The Octopus"—a staggering global shadow network built on stolen military software, illicit weapons manufacturing, and international money laundering. But the most terrifying revelation of this dark government operation isn't the missing millions or the corporate theft. It is the man the intelligence community sent to protect it: Phillip Arthur Thompson, a ruthless, state-sponsored serial killer operating with absolute impunity and an FBI shield. Using historical public domain footage and deep-dive research, we reconstruct one of the most disturbing true stories in American history. This true crime documentary tracks Thompson’s chilling evolution from a brutal street-level predator to an untouchable CIA hitman, acting as the violent enforcement arm for a government coverup that spanned the globe. From the theft of the INSLAW PROMIS software to the lawless Cabazon reservation, discover how the Octopus shadow network operated in plain sight—and permanently silenced the only journalist brave enough to expose them.
