What happens when a great leader is gone and the responsibility of carrying on falls to someone else? Joshua had walked beside Moses, witnessed extraordinary miracles, and learned from a man God had used mightily. But when his own moment arrived, God did not ask Joshua to become another Moses. He promised something far greater: “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you.” Inspired by Exodus 17, Numbers 13–14, Joshua 1–4, 6, and 24, You Will Be With Me is a song about courage, calling, and discovering that the God who worked through those before us is still faithful today. We can honor their stories without having to live inside them. God is inviting us to trust Him with our own. I knew the sound of Moses’ voice, had watched him stand where mountains burned, watched waters open at his feet, and wondered what a man must be for You to use him like You did. Then came the silence. Moses was gone. And suddenly the road ahead was waiting underneath my feet. I could not be him. You never asked me to. You only said— As I was with Moses, I will be with you. Be strong. Be courageous. There is still a river to cross. There is still a promise ahead. And you do not need the strength of the man who walked before you— You need Me. I will be with you. But You had been preparing me long before I knew. In battles fought while Moses prayed, in quiet years beside his side, in wilderness roads that seemed to lead nowhere. When others saw giants, Caleb and I remembered You. I thought I was standing in another man’s shadow— but You were teaching me to stand. As I was with Moses, I will be with you. Be strong. Be courageous. There is still a river to cross. There is still a promise ahead. And you do not need the strength of the man who walked before you— You need Me. I will be with you. Then I stood before the Jordan. Moses had his sea. And now— I had my river. The priests stepped in. The waters moved. And somewhere between one shore and the other, I understood— the God of Moses was my God too. So we carried stones from the riverbed, twelve reminders on our shoulders. Someday our children would ask us, “What happened here?” And we would tell them— This is where God made a way. This is where we learned we did not have to live on someone else’s story. We could remember theirs— and still gather stones of our own. I saw walls fall. I saw promises become places where our children could live. But walls falling was never the greatest thing You did. You took a man who began his journey as the servant of Moses— and taught him to belong completely to You. You were with Moses. You were with me. Through every river, every battle, every road I had never walked before. Your presence was my courage. Your promise was enough. And if another stands tomorrow where I am standing now, tell them— You do not have to be the one who came before you. Trust the God who goes before you. So choose today whom you will serve. As for me and my house— we will serve the Lord. And when my journey has been told, let this be enough: not that I followed a great man, not that I conquered a great land— but that I learned to follow a faithful God. And at the end, I was called His servant.
