What does it mean to remain faithful to Jesus when following Him comes at a cost?
In Revelation 10–11, John receives God's Word, sweet to taste yet bitter to carry. Then two witnesses proclaim God's truth, face opposition and death, and are raised by His power.
Make Me a Faithful Witness is a prayer for courage, tenderness, and perseverance.
Jesus, the Faithful Witness, has already walked the road of suffering and conquered death. He calls us not to save ourselves, but to follow Him.
May His Word become more than something we know. May it become the life we live.
Make us faithful witnesses. Let our lives point back to You.
Scripture: Revelation 1:5 | Revelation 10–11 | John 18:37
You put Your Word into my hands,
Then told me, “Take and eat.”
Sweet upon my tongue, Lord,
Bitter deep in me.
Not words for me to carry
At a distance from my heart.
Let what You have spoken
Become who I am.
You measured out the temple,
The altar and Your own.
You know the ones who worship.
You mark them as Your own.
Yet You never said that being Yours
Would keep us from the pain.
The outer courts may tremble,
But what is Yours remains.
So if You send me, I will go.
If You give me words, I'll speak.
For I have seen the Faithful Witness
Who was faithful unto death for me.
Jesus, make me a faithful witness,
Let me look like You.
When the cost of truth is heavy,
Keep my heart still true.
You did not turn away from suffering.
You did not save Yourself.
You gave Your life bearing witness
To the heart of God Himself.
Jesus, make me a faithful witness.
Let my life point back to You.
Two witnesses stood speaking
While the watching world opposed.
They carried what You gave them
Until their voices closed.
And when the beast had killed them,
The earth believed it won.
But heaven had another word—
“Come up here.”
And they rose.
For death could not hold You,
And death will not have us.
The grave did not defeat You,
And the grave will not decide us.
We may follow You through suffering.
We may follow to the cross.
But no life poured out for Jesus
Will ever truly be lost.
You are the Faithful Witness.
You are the First to rise.
So teach us how to follow You
With resurrection in our eyes.
Jesus, make us faithful witnesses.
Let Your church look like You.
When the world rejects Your mercy,
Keep us tender, keep us true.
Let the Word that we have tasted
Become the lives we live.
Let us spend what You have given,
Knowing what the ending is.
The kingdom of this world
Will become the kingdom of our Lord
And of His Christ.
And You will reign.
You will reign.
You will reign forever.
So we do not have to conquer.
We only have to follow.
We do not have to save ourselves.
Our Shepherd went before us.
Put Your Word inside me, Jesus,
Until my life speaks too.
Make me a faithful witness—
Like You.
