The Loudest Sermon | Front Porch Light Original

I saw something today that stopped me for a minute. It was about how the way we love other people may be the loudest sermon we ever preach. And boy, that got me thinking. We can talk about our faith. We can quote Scripture, sing the hymns, go to church and tell people about Jesus. But somewhere along the way, what we believe has to show up in how we treat people. Especially when it's hard. This song isn't me saying I've mastered that. Far from it. It's more of a prayer—and a reminder to myself of the kind of person I want to be. I want to have patience when somebody is difficult. I want to choose kindness when it would be easier to be harsh. I want to show mercy when the world says judge. I want to give grace even when nobody sees it or thanks me for it. Because there are people who may never walk through the doors of a church. They may never sit in a pew or listen to a preacher. But they might meet Jesus through one of us. Sometimes our greatest opportunity to tell somebody about Him doesn't require saying His name at all. It may simply be sitting beside somebody who's hurting. Listening. Helping. Forgiving. Showing up. Loving somebody when loving them costs us something. That's what inspired “The Loudest Sermon.” And maybe the most important line I wrote is also the simplest: I don't want to only talk about Jesus— I want to love the way He did.
