Rain is considering the windows, the fire has settled low, and the Veil has left a book on the shelf that was not there this morning. Tonight's story is set in a narrow coal hollow where every window keeps a lamp lit until the men come home, and where the old miners swore that a light left burning with enough patience could travel a very long way. It is a slow story, told for the hour when the day finally lets go of you. Let the fire burn down on its own. There is no need to put it out. A note on the lore: foxfire is real, the glow of fungi in damp, rotting wood. The Tommyknockers and bluecaps were real beliefs, carried into the mines by Cornish, Welsh, and Scottish miners. The ghost moths belong to the cottage alone. Please turn autoplay off before you settle in, so nothing wakes you when the story ends. The candle stays lit. 🖤 Moth and Moon
