We Do Not Live To Ourselves

In the story of crossing the Red Sea, the Egyptian army is collateral in the narrative of salvation history. This is common in heroic tales ancient and modern. As we remember the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks and process this week's news of a possible AI apocalypse, Jesus points to the the kingdom of God, where all are citizens and no one is collateral, but we have to do the hard work of forgiveness and repentance to live in harmony with our neighbors.
