1928 Dirty Blues on a Mighty Wurlitzer — It's Tight Like That

"It's Tight Like That" — a 1928 hokum blues, played in the Blackpool tradition on the Modern Fox Wurlitzer for Hauptwerk. 🎩 THE STORY BEHIND THE TUNE Tampa Red and "Georgia Tom" cut this in Chicago on 24 October 1928. It sold in the millions and set off a craze for hokum — peppy tunes with cheerfully filthy double meanings. "Georgia Tom" was Thomas A. Dorsey, who a few years later turned away from the blues entirely and became the father of black gospel music, writing "Take My Hand, Precious Lord".
