Prevalence of hepatitis C is 5% in the general population in Pakistan. Hepatitis C is the most common cause of liver cirrhosis in Pakistan. Before September 2014, treatment of chronic hepatitis C used to be Interferon & Ribavirin combination; but since then (2014) treatment of chronic hepatitis C comprises oral drugs (DAAs) which is effective in more than 95% cases.
