HOU QUESTIONS CLAIMS OF NATIONAL STABILITY | Member of Parliament for Small Malaita, Ricky Hou, has strongly criticised the government during the Motion of No Confidence debate in Honiara on Thursday. Hou responded to remarks made by Finance Minister Rexon Ramofafia and MP Jimson Tanangada, saying their statements focused more on defending political positions than addressing national issues. He said the Finance Minister appeared more focused on defending himself rather than the Prime Minister. Hou also challenged claims that the ruling party had delivered national stability and development. “I disagree because not all good things come from Our Party,” he said. “Some of the projects are from successive governments.” He argued that many development projects in the country were built over time by different governments, not just the current one. Hou also questioned the meaning of political stability, saying alliances formed for convenience cannot be considered real stability. “I want to say that stability is not stability when you have a group of people together for convenience,” he said. He added that frequent changes of political alliances show ongoing instability in the country. “It is not stability when leaders and members of one party move from here to there. This is why motions of no confidence happen all the time, and there is instability all the time because of this reason,” Hou said. Visual credit @ Solomon Islands National Parliament
