For more than a century, the Titanic has been surrounded by unanswered questions, conflicting accounts, and stories repeated so often that they became accepted as fact. But a groundbreaking full-scale digital scan of the wreck is giving researchers a new way to examine what really happened on April 14–15, 1912.
Using hundreds of thousands of high-resolution images captured from the seafloor, researchers created an incredibly detailed 3D reconstruction of the Titanic wreck. The digital twin reveals the bow, the devastated stern, the debris field, structural damage, and details that were impossible to understand from scattered photographs alone.
In this video, we explore what the Titanic scan reveals about the iceberg collision, the supposedly massive hull gash, the chain of small openings that allowed water into multiple compartments, the violent breakup of the stern, and the evidence showing how the ship's boilers and electrical systems were still operating during the final stages of the sinking.
We also examine the story of Chief Engineer Joseph Bell and the engineers who remained below deck to keep the Titanic's lights and power running, the evidence surrounding First Officer William Murdoch, the lifeboat evacuation, the 2024 discoveries at the wreck site, and the remarkable rediscovery of the Diana statue.
Most importantly, this is a story about how modern technology is changing our understanding of one of history's most famous disasters.
The real Titanic is slowly disappearing beneath the Atlantic. Rusticles, corrosion, currents, and structural collapse continue to transform the wreck. But the digital Titanic may preserve evidence that could otherwise be lost forever.
