Revit MCP tutorial, part 1: what MCP (Model Context Protocol) is, and a close look at Claude working inside Revit 2026. One prompt, six tool calls: Claude counts the doors and windows, reads the levels, and adds a boundary wall, asking your permission before every call. In this series we build that connection ourselves, from an empty folder, every line typed.
You will learn:
What MCP is, and how Claude Desktop reaches Revit through an MCP server and a Revit add-in
Why Revit only runs add-in code on its main thread (External Event), and why every change is one undo step
The 5 tools we build (3 read, 2 write) and what this setup cannot do
What you need: Revit 2026, Visual Studio Community (free), Python 3, Claude Desktop
