This is the Shanghai people mean when they say "city walk." It starts under Wukang Mansion — the flatiron building designed by László Hudec in 1924 — and follows Wukang Road north under the plane trees, past 1920s villas, a writer's garden house and a balcony locals call Romeo's Balcony, then turns east onto Anfu Road and ends at Changshu Road metro station. Shot in one continuous walk in 4K 60fps HDR with binaural audio. Headphones recommended. No music, no commentary, no cuts — just the sound of the city. 📍 ROUTE Wukang Mansion → Wukang Road → Ferguson Lane → Ba Jin's Former Residence → Romeo's Balcony → Anfu Road → Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre → Changshu Road Station Distance: roughly 2–2.5 km, walked at filming pace Shot in 4K 60fps HDR (Rec.2100 HLG) with binaural audio ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 Wukang Mansion 01:30 Wukang Road 04:25 Ferguson Lane 15:00 Ba Jin's Former Residence 23:00 Anfu Road 25:00 Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre 38:00 Changshu Road Station 🏛️ WHAT YOU'LL SEE Wukang Mansion — Designed by László Hudec and completed in 1924 as the Normandie Apartments. Its ship-like flatiron shape sits in the fork of Wukang Road and Huaihai Middle Road, which is why it is the most photographed building in Shanghai. The classic view is from across the street — the second floor of the post office opposite. Wukang Road — Formerly Route Ferguson, named after the American missionary and educator John Calvin Ferguson. About 1.2 km long, it runs under plane trees past villas built in the 1920s and 1930s, and is often called Shanghai's most beautiful street. It forms part of the Hengfu historic district. Ferguson Lane (Wukang Ting) — A restored lane of boutiques and cafés with a red-brick archway, home to the %Arabica coffee shop. A good place to stop. Ba Jin's Former Residence — The garden villa at No. 113 where the writer Ba Jin lived from 1955 until his death in 2005. He wrote much of 《随想录》 (Random Thoughts) here; the house is now a museum. Check opening hours before visiting — it is usually closed on Mondays. Anfu Road — A short street of cafés, boutiques and second-hand bookshops, and one of the city's trendiest addresses. A very different Shanghai from the office towers on Nanjing West Road. Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre — The city's main venue for stage drama, at No. 288 Anfu Road. Changshu Road Station — Lines 1 and 7; the end of the walk. Not in this walk: the Soong Ching-ling Residence sits just around the corner from Wukang Mansion and deserves a visit of its own. 🎧 AUDIO — BINAURAL Recorded with custom binaural microphones worn at the ear canals and a Zoom H1essential, so you hear the street the way a person standing there would. Headphones make a real difference. 🎥 GEAR Camera: Insta360 Luna Ultra Audio: Zoom H1essential + custom binaural microphones Frame rate: 4K 60fps | Colour: HDR (Rec.2100 HLG) ▶️ WATCH THE PREVIOUS WALKS Suzhou Creek Bridges to The Bund →    • Shanghai Walking Tour 4K60 HDR | Suzhou Cr...   Nanjing West Road: Taikoo Hui to Jing'an Temple →    • Shanghai Walking Tour 4K60 HDR | Nanjing W...   Subscribe for a new walking tour of Shanghai every week. #Shanghai #WalkingTour #BinauralAudio #4KHDR #WukangRoad #ShanghaiCityWalk
