Lake Marian’s Alpine Reward on Day 6

Key Summit & Lake Marian via Routeburn Track | Fiordland National Park, Te Anau, Southland, New Zealand • Length: 7.7 km • Elevation Gain: 422 m • Route Type: Out & Back A 7.7 km out-and-back trail near Te Anau, generally considered a moderately challenging hike. This popular route is frequented by birdwatchers, hikers, and walkers, so expect company along the way. The best season to visit is October through May. Note: dogs are not permitted. The track is a steady climb to Lake Marian, a beautiful alpine lake set in the Hanging Valley. It’s rough at times, but the reward is worth it. Snow-capped peaks surround the lake, with sunlight and shadows playing across the mountainsides.
