Could a warrior from Ancient Greece, like the legendary Achilles, survive in an MMA octagon today? To answer that question, I put myself through an extreme 30-day experiment, strictly adopting the training routine of the hoplites and Myrmidons to test the effectiveness of ancient techniques against modern combat. In this video, you'll follow my entire journey of transformation and endurance:
What a Greek warrior's training consists of:
Extreme endurance: 8 km of daily running on an empty stomach.
Functional strength: using rocks, logs, and loads to simulate the weight of armor and shields.
Pankration: the brutal, ancient fighting style that gave rise to the martial arts.
Precision: spear and discus throwing to activate the core.
Ancestral diet: no supplements or sugar, focused on meat, bread, and cheese.
The limits of the body: find out what happened in the fateful third week, when mental exhaustion and a shoulder injury nearly ended the project. Discover how the lack of carbohydrates and the excess of linear loading transformed my physique — building raw strength while sacrificing agility and dodging ability.
The final test: I faced an amateur MMA fighter in a 3-minute round. The result reveals the truth about how the sport has evolved: is the raw power of Pankration enough to beat refined technique, low kicks, and the ground game of modern Jiu-Jitsu?
The conclusion of this experiment brings a deep reflection on how training goals have changed over the centuries — from survival on the battlefield to high-speed athletic performance.
