It’s time for me to make my Medicare decision for 2027, and this year I decided not to simply let my current plan roll over without taking a closer look.
I’ve been hearing a lot about the potential problems with Medicare Advantage, especially prior authorizations, provider networks, and those scary maximum out-of-pocket numbers. It made me wonder whether I should stay with Medicare Advantage or consider going back to Original Medicare with a Medigap plan.
So I started doing the research.
In this video, I’ll take you through the numbers I looked at, the Medigap options I considered, what those alternatives would actually cost me, and—most importantly—what my own Medicare Advantage plan has actually cost me during a year when I used quite a bit of healthcare.
Seeing my real numbers changed the way I looked at this decision.
This isn't about telling anyone else which type of Medicare coverage they should choose. Medicare is very personal. What works for me may not work for you. I'm simply sharing how I worked through my own decision for 2027.
If you're reviewing your Medicare coverage this year, I'd love to hear what you're doing. Are you staying with what you have, switching Medicare Advantage plans, or considering Original Medicare and Medigap?
