“That kid was me.” https://chirohustle.com/that-kid-was-... Episode 811 of the Chiro Hustle Podcast reaches an emotional moment when Dr Amanda Blonigen DC describes bringing chiropractic care into schools for children who might otherwise never have access—and James Chester realizes she is talking about children like the boy he once was. Raised by a single mother, growing up poor, struggling with dyslexia and being told he would never become educated, James remembers his mother saving money so he could receive chiropractic care. For the first time in hundreds of Chiro Hustle interviews, the story brings James to tears. Dr Amanda Blonigen DC joins James for a conversation about pregnancy, birth, pediatric chiropractic, developmental milestones, chiropractic philosophy, family practice, access to care, and an ambitious vision for bringing chiropractic into schools across America. Amanda originally planned to become a pediatrician. After shadowing in pediatrics, however, she began asking whether there was something more. A marketing job inside a chiropractic office introduced her to something she had never known growing up: kids could get adjusted. That discovery changed her life. During chiropractic school, Amanda immersed herself in pediatric chiropractic, studied through the ICPA, learned Webster Technique from Dr Jeanne Ohm, and witnessed a birth—an experience that transformed her understanding of the intelligence of the body and the chiropractic principle. Today, Amanda works with Dr Lona Cook DC through Well-Adjusted Students, a nonprofit bringing chiropractic care directly into schools. What began as an employee wellness service eventually produced a question from the schools themselves: When are you going to start doing this for the students? Today the program serves 17 locations, with particular attention to underserved children, children living in poverty, and children with special needs. Amanda calls it a “mission trip in our backyard.” This episode asks chiropractors to think bigger than the walls of their practices. What happens when children grow up knowing chiropractic is normal? What happens when chiropractic has a seat at the table alongside other services already entering schools? What happens when a child whose family could never afford regular chiropractic care is introduced to the principle, the adjustment, and the idea that their body is intelligent? And what could happen to the profession 20 years from now if those children become parents, advocates—and perhaps chiropractors themselves? This is a conversation about protecting the Sacred Trust, serving children, respecting the intelligence within the body, and having the courage to show up. Because somewhere there is another child who needs someone to believe there is more possible for their life. That kid was James. There are thousands more.
