Jesus Reigns No. 5

About the Song "Jesus Reigns" is a triumphant Christian anthem that proclaims the sovereignty of Jesus Christ across all of history, every aspect of daily life, and throughout eternity. Drawing listeners on a sweeping journey from Creation to Christ's glorious return, the song presents a panoramic vision of God's redemptive plan and declares the unchanging truth that Jesus reigns over all. The opening verse traces key moments of biblical history, from God's command at Creation, Noah's Ark, Moses and the parting of the Red Sea, and Solomon's Temple, to the birth, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. These events are woven together into a single narrative that reveals God's faithful plan unfolding through the ages and culminating in the victorious reign of Christ. At the heart of the song is the memorable chorus: "Jesus reigns, Jesus reigns! Over all of our days, over joy, over pain." This simple yet profound declaration serves as both a theological truth and a personal confession of faith. It reminds believers that Christ's authority extends beyond the pages of Scripture into every circumstance of life, whether seasons of celebration or seasons of struggle. The second verse brings the message closer to home by focusing on everyday experiences: waking each morning, working, learning, serving family, and navigating life's hopes and challenges. In doing so, the song affirms that Jesus is not only Lord of history but also Lord of our homes, workplaces, classrooms, relationships, and daily routines. The bridge provides the song's theological climax, celebrating Jesus as the Alpha and Omega, honouring the mystery of the Holy Trinity, and proclaiming Christ's eternal nature: "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Looking ahead to His promised return, the bridge points believers toward the day when Christ's reign will be fully revealed in glory and every promise of God will be fulfilled. Musically and lyrically, "Jesus Reigns" is designed as a congregational anthem but this version is congregational quiet worship. Its strength lies not in complexity, but in its clear, bold proclamation of a timeless truth. The song invites worshippers of all ages to join together in declaring that Jesus reigned at Creation, reigns in our lives today, and will reign forever when He returns in majesty. Ultimately, "Jesus Reigns" is a song of worship, hope, and confidence. Its message is unwavering: through every generation, every circumstance, and every age to come, Jesus Christ remains King of kings and Lord of lords. "He reigns in our morning, He reigns in our night, until He returns in majestic light." Lyrics: [Verse 1] From the darkness He spoke, and the heavens awoke, Creation sang out at His call. Through Noah’s great ark, and Moses’ clear path, And Solomon’s temple so tall. Then a light in the night, a Savior born meek, He healed and He taught by the sea; Crucified on the tree, He arose from the grave, Victorious to set us all free! [Chorus] Jesus reigns, Jesus reigns! Over all of our days, over joy, over pain. From the start of the earth to the end of all time, Our King on the throne, forever divine! Jesus reigns! [Verse 2] From the dawn’s early light when we wake to the day, To the work of our hands and the words that we say. In the classrooms of youth, in the care for our own, His presence and power are faithfully shown. Through the routine of life and the passing of years, In our laughter and labor, our hopes and our tears, Until clouds roll away and the trumpet shall sound, And the fullness of glory forever is found! [Chorus] Jesus reigns, Jesus reigns! Over all of our days, over joy, over pain. From the start of the earth to the end of all time, Our King on the throne, forever divine! Jesus reigns! [Bridge] Alpha and Omega, God the Father, Spirit, Son, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever! Our firm foundation till the skies unfold above, He’s coming in His glory to seal His reign of love! [Chorus] Jesus reigns, Jesus reigns! Over all of our days, over joy, over pain. From the start of the earth to the end of all time, Our King on the throne, forever divine! Jesus reigns! [Outro] He reigns in our morning, He reigns in our night, Until He returns in majestic light. Jesus reigns, Amen!
