In this video we celebrate México's Independence day El Grito, or El Grito de dolores, or El Grito de la Independencia, Día de la Independenceia, Las Fiestas Patrias, LA Noche del Grito on September 15th.• Meaning: It refers to the historic battle cry and call to arms spoken on September 16, 1810, by Roman Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in the town of Dolores, Guanajuato, Mexico. Father Hidalgo rang the church bell and urged his congregation to revolt against Spanish colonial rule, marking the start of the Mexican War of Independence. In the early morning hours of Sept. 16, 1810 (around 2:30am), a cry rang out from the Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, where the local Roman Catholic priest, Don Miguel Gregorio Antonio Ignacio Hidalgo y Costilla y Gallaga Mandarte Villaseñor (we’ll call him Hidalgo) ordered his church bells to be rung to summon his parishioners. In a fiery address, he excoriated the ruling Spanish government and urged the people to revolt. His compelling and dramatic speech, which ignited a decade of war in pursuit of independence, became known as the ‘cry of Dolores.’At around 11:00pm, the president emerges on the balcony of the National Palace and rings the same bell that Hidalgo rang in 1810 (given its national and symbolic importance, the bell now resides in the National Palace). He then recites a shout of patriotism loosely based on the original grito. The language varies a bit from year to year, but always includes the heroes of the revolution and threefold shouts of ¡Viva México! Welcome to Dave and Rose Travels! 🇲🇽✨ We are a retired husband and wife living our absolute best life and exploring Mérida, Yucatán, México. Our entire outlook on life changed nearly three years ago when Dave survived two heart attacks and emergency open-heart surgery (a triple bypass). Coming so close to losing Dave made us realize just how precious time is. From that moment on, living life to the fullest and traveling became our number one priority. The universe gave us our final push in November 2025. After 36 years with his company, corporate downsizing led to an early retirement package offer. It had its hidden strings, but it was exactly the sign we needed. We took the leap, accepted the package, and turned our 10-year dream into reality. We packed up our lives and drove all the way to México! 🚗💨Now, we are officially here, loving every minute of the life we spent a decade planning.
