Augustine on Psalm 119

Psalm 119:105 Hey everyone! In this video we are looking at a verse that describes God's Word as a guiding light for our lives. "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." - Psalm 119:105 The psalmist gives us a beautiful image of what Scripture does for us. It is a lamp for our feet. In ancient times, a lamp was small -- it didn't illuminate the whole landscape. It gave just enough light for the next step. And that's how God's Word often works. It may not show us the entire journey ahead, but it gives us enough light to take the next faithful step. It is also a light on our path. A path can be treacherous in the dark. There are obstacles, pitfalls, and wrong turns. But God's Word illuminates the way. It shows us where to go. It warns us of danger. It keeps us on the right road. This verse reminds us that we don't have to navigate life in darkness. God has given us His Word to guide us. But we have to use it. A lamp sitting on a shelf doesn't light anything. We have to pick it up. We have to read it. We have to apply it. And as we do, God illuminates our path one step at a time.
