Am I Crazy for Growing THIS in New York?

Am I completely crazy for growing a tropical garden in New York? Apparently everyone around me thinks so! 😂🌴 It's October in the Hudson Valley, winter is getting closer, and I'm still running around shirtless trying to keep my tropical paradise alive. Jesus thinks I've lost my mind, Juan agrees, and honestly, after seeing the enormous structures we're building to protect my palm trees, you might agree with them! This week, we're tackling one of my biggest Washingtonia palms, building a gigantic winter protection tower, digging up banana plants, and figuring out how to keep some very unusual tropical plants alive through another freezing New York winter. From Italian cypress and date palms to Sabal palmettos and a struggling mule palm, there's never a dull moment in this garden. And just when you think things couldn't get any crazier, Jesus and I head down to the Hudson River for one last October swim.
