Sailing a Cal 20 Sailboat on Commencement Bay Tacoma WA

The Cal 20 is a small production sailboat designed for class racing and affordable family cruising. It is only about 20 feet long like the Lightening sailing dinghy it was inspired by. Unlike the dinghy, it has a small cabin that can sleep up to four people and a 900 pound iron bulb keel giving about a 50% ballast to displacement ratio, making it extremely stiff in windy weather. A couple have even been modified for bluewater cruising, sailing from the west coast to Hawaii.
