Lyrics: YAHWEH, our refuge through every age, Our dwelling place from age to age; Before the mountains came to be, You were El eternally. Before the earth beneath us stood, Before the world was formed and good, From everlasting, still the same, Forever stands Your kodesh Name. Teach us to number all our days, And give us hearts of wisdom’s ways; Our years like whispers pass away, But You remain from day to day. O satisfy us from above, Each morning with Your faithful love; Then we will sing while life remains, And praise You through our joys and pains. You turn the sons of men to dust, Reminding us in whom to trust; A thousand years before Your sight Are yesterday, a watch at night. Like morning grass our lives arise, We flourish briefly ’neath the skies; But evening comes, the flowers fade, And man returns to where he’s laid. Our hidden sins before You lie, No secret hides beneath Your eye; Our fleeting years like whispers fly, Our strength grows weak, our days pass by. Though seventy years to us are given, Or eighty by the strength of heaven, Their pride is labour, grief and strain, Then swiftly we are gone again. Teach us to number all our days, And give us hearts of wisdom’s ways; Our years like whispers pass away, But You remain from day to day. O satisfy us from above, Each morning with Your faithful love; Then we will sing while life remains, And praise You through our joys and pains. Return, YAHWEH! O how long? Turn mourning into joyful song; For all the years that sorrow grew, Restore our joy and make us new. Reveal Your works for us to see, Your splendour to our children be; Let generations yet to come Know You have been our dwelling home. Teach us to number all our days, And give us hearts of wisdom’s ways; Our lives are brief, our years are few, So turn our hearts again to You. Let Your pleasantness rest on us, YAHWEH our Elohim, in whom we trust; And while our fleeting days remain, Establish what our hands have made. Establish, YAHWEH, the work of our hands, Let it endure according to Your plans; From everlasting You remain— Our dwelling place through every age.
