We Came to Hike Indiana Dunes… Almost Everything Was Closed

We returned to Indiana Dunes National Park hoping to revisit one of our favorite hikes. But a major storm had other plans for our weekend. When we arrived, we learned that nearly every trail was closed. So instead of the hike we'd planned, we set out on the Dunes Succession Trail — a short hike through sand dunes, forest, stairs, and overlooks that eventually leads right to Lake Michigan. And that was only the beginning of our change in plans. With storm damage and power outages affecting much of the area, finding somewhere to eat became a challenge — and when we returned to our hotel, we discovered it was closed too. Eventually, our Indiana Dunes weekend took us somewhere we hadn't planned on going at all: across the state line to New Buffalo, Michigan.
