Live testing with assistive technology

Can your residents complete the journey? Accessibility through real lived experience | LocalGov Drupal September Accessibility Meetup Automated accessibility checks are a good first step, but they don't always show whether people can actually use a service. For this meetup, MyWeb Access from MyVision Oxfordshire ran a live testing session with a disabled tester using assistive technology. Westmorland and Furness Council volunteered two real journeys to test: Reporting a missed bin collection Finding information to help with a Blue Badge application Watching someone use a screen magnifier in real time threw up things an automated scan would miss: a page that split into two scrollable sections when zoomed in, a "save and return" button that was easier to hit than the actual next button, and a pop-up that briefly blocked the screen before closing. We also talk through what changes for screen reader users, why PDFs are often harder to navigate than they look, and why accessibility overlays cause more problems than they solve.
