Life is Hard in the Philippines, So Why Are People This Happy? 🇵🇭

Tondo is one of Manila's most notorious neighbourhoods, yet I was told that the people who live there are among the happiest in the Philippines. I decided to head there and find out for myself. What followed was a day of laughter, unexpected encounters and genuine Filipino warmth. I met a group of young lads who welcomed me into Tondo, explored Happy Land alongside a local barangay councillor, met a resident with a surprising love of Britain and King Charles, and ended the afternoon with a fresh haircut. After two years of living and travelling around the Philippines, I've become fascinated by how people find happiness, kindness and connection even when life isn't easy.
