Chambered in 7.62x39, its milled receiver makes it heavier than later AK variants, but also exceptionally durable. The underfolding stock keeps the rifle compact enough for travel through dense vegetation, cramped buildings, and underground passages. Its age shows in one area: the lack of factory optic mounts. To compensate, many Loners install custom rear-sight Picatinny adapters, allowing the use of modern Western optics. Despite its weight, the AKS-47 remains attractive because it is usually cheaper than the lighter-pricy AKM, giving cash-strapped stalkers an affordable path into serious firepower."
