“Repair of Fire Damaged Buildings” by Prof Richard Walls This talk will cover: • Basic fire dynamics for identifying fire conditions • Post-fire assessment of buildings • Possible tests and approaches available for repair • Repair of steel, concrete, timber and other systems • Design considerations Prof Richard Walls if a structural and fire engineer who leads the fire engineering team at SU. His team has published around 100 academic works, including the first technical guideline on fire safety for informal settlements. Industry work has been done for companies developing rational structural fire designs, repairing fire-damaged structures, forensic investigations on various high-profile events, analysis of public transport systems and arson attacks and more. Awards received include: Engineer of the Year, honorary fellow of the SA Institute of Civil Engineering (SAICE), IStructE and SFPE awards for teaching, and Emerging Researcher of the Year in STEM in South Africa.
