Молись и засыпай — Богородица оберегает тебя — Ночной афонский распев

This is Byzantine chant from Mount Athos, sung by Greek Orthodox monks in Byzantine Greek for the last prayers of the night. On the Holy Mountain, the prayer of the Athonite monks has continued day and night for more than a thousand years. These chants carry its quiet evening spirit: a solo cantor answered by the brotherhood, slow legato phrases in the ancient modes, and the low ison held beneath them, with no instruments and no beat. You do not need to understand the Greek for the prayer to reach you, because the warmth of the voices and the stillness between the phrases speak plainly enough. The chants turn again and again to the Theotokos, the Mother of God who keeps watch over those who sleep, and to the saints of Mount Athos who sought her protection through the night. Let this Orthodox chant accompany your evening prayer, the Jesus Prayer whispered as you lie down, or a weary and anxious heart that needs rest. 🕯️ May this Byzantine chant from the Holy Mountain be a gentle invitation to lay down the cares of the day and fall asleep in peace beneath her care. #MountAthos #ByzantineChant #OrthodoxChant #GreekOrthodox #OrthodoxMonks #Theotokos #HolyMountain #SacredMusic #Prayer #Peace
