Recorded in Chicago in the early 1960s, I’ll Let My Feet Say It finds Jimmy Lee answering a question he knows a polished line cannot settle. She wants to know whether he will still be there when the music cools down. Jimmy could give her an answer. In fact, he already has one ready. But he also knows why words alone are not going to convince her. He has been good at arriving easily, making the evening sound sweet, and leaving before morning. So this time he does not ask her to trust another promise. He stays. A bright piano, driving upright bass, clipped guitar and short horn replies give the record the forward bounce of a Brunswick-era Chicago soul side, while Jimmy keeps the vocal warm, patient and firmly on the beat. The chorus carries the whole idea in one simple action: “I’ll let my feet say it.” If the band keeps playing, he will still be there beside her. If she needs time before she believes him, she can take it. By the bridge, Jimmy finally says what the whole record has been demonstrating: a man can say forever and still leave. So he would rather let what he does speak for him. And when the final refrain comes around, his feet are still exactly where he said they would be.
