A simple Christmas Temari featuring three stitching techniques:
✦ Inward Star Stitching
✦ Solid Diamond Stitching
✦ French Knot Stitching

Ball Information:
This design is made on an 8 cm diameter black core ball, using a Combination 10 (C10) division marked with gold metallic thread.

⭐ Inward Star Stitching
For the inward stars, I used a thick gold metallic thread made from six strands twisted together. The thickness of the thread gives the stars a beautifully raised and dimensional appearance.
The idea behind an inward star is quite simple: it reverses the direction in which we would normally build a five-pointed star.
With a regular star, we usually begin with the smallest inner round and add each new round outside the previous one, gradually building the star outward.
For an inward star, we do the opposite. We begin by stitching the largest, outermost star shape. Each following row is then worked just inside the previous one, gradually moving towards the centre. As more rows are added, the open space becomes smaller and smaller until the entire star is filled.

♦️ Solid Diamond Stitching
The solid diamond is also quite straightforward, but there is one small detail that can make a noticeable difference: the spacing between your stitches at the sharp and obtuse corners.
For the first row, at the obtuse corner, make a short stitch very close to the centre intersection of the diamond. At the sharp corner, leave a little more space, approximately 2 mm away from the centre intersection.
From the second row onwards, you can gradually adjust the spacing at the sharp corner. Instead of leaving the full 2 mm, around 1 mm from the previous row is usually enough.
There’s no need to measure every stitch exactly. As you work, simply adjust the spacing by eye and aim to keep each new row following the shape of the diamond naturally.
At the obtuse corners, continue placing each new stitch very close to, and just underneath, the previous row.
The spacing may need a little adjustment as you go, so feel free to follow the shape and see what looks most natural on your own Temari.

🪡French Knot Stitching
French knots are a simple way to add small decorative details and texture to the design.
The size of the knot can be adjusted by changing how many times you wrap the thread around the needle. More wraps will create a larger knot. You can experiment with the number of wraps depending on the size and effect you would like.

The combination of stars, solid diamonds, and French knot details creates a festive and dimensional design while keeping the stitching relatively simple and approachable. I hope this video gives you some inspiration for your own Christmas Temari!
