Never Knew Love Like This Before (Neo-Soul Rework) Stephanie Mills AI Cover

This AI reimagined cover of "Never Knew Love Like This Before" by the legendary Stephanie Mills takes the 1980 original and gives it a smooth, uplifting, feel-good groove. Think warm rhodes chords, a laid-back pocket, and a romantic Neo-Soul vibe that makes you want to sway while still honouring the powerhouse vocal energy that made the original a crossover smash. Released in August 1980 as the second single from Mills' album Sweet Sensation, "Never Knew Love Like This Before" became the definitive crossover hit of her career. Written and produced by the acclaimed duo James Mtume and Reggie Lucas, the song was actually inspired by something deeply personal—the birth of Lucas's daughter, Lisa. (Fun fact: It was originally pitched to Patti LaBelle, who turned it down before it landed with Mills.) The track peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, hit No. 4 in the UK, and earned Stephanie Mills her very first Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 1981—beating out legends like Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross. It also won Best R&B Song for Mtume and Lucas. Stephanie Mills is healthy, actively touring, and making major career headlines. Rather than stepping away from the spotlight, the Grammy-winning R&B and Broadway icon has remained highly visible through recent theatre roles, national tours, and viral media appearances. Mills continues to dedicate much of her life to her 25-year-old son, Farad, who was born with Down syndrome. She frequently speaks publicly about the joy of raising him and encouraging his natural musical talents on the piano and guitar.
