Welcome to Day 18 of our incredible family road trip! We started our day in the sacred city of Rameswaram, heading out early for darshan. Knowing the free lines would take hours, we opted for the ₹200 special darshan tickets, allowing us to peacefully complete our visit without the massive queues. Our spiritual morning continued at the ocean for a holy bath at Agni Theertham, followed by the purifying ritual of the 22 Kunds (holy wells), where attendants pour water over devotees for a ₹25 ticket. After the temple, we took Hiral and Miral to a highly inspiring spot: the house and museum of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. It was wonderful showing the girls where the former President grew up. The kids even picked up some new books; Miral grabbed a space-themed copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, while Hiral picked up Dr. Kalam’s own book, Reignited. With our Rameswaram sightseeing complete, we hit the road and crossed the iconic Pamban Bridge. The sea winds were incredibly intense! We got to see the historic old railway bridge running alongside the new one, learning how it opens in half to let ships pass through. The drive down toward Kanyakumari was incredibly scenic. As we cruised down the highway, we passed through massive "gardens" of windmills—thousands of them stretching across the landscape. It’s hard to believe, but our trusty XL6 has now carried us for nearly 4,000 kilometers since leaving home! We finally arrived at our ultimate geographical destination: Kanyakumari, the southern tip of mainland India. To celebrate, we tracked down Sri Punjabi Dhaba to satisfy our cravings for familiar North Indian food. Ending the day with a massive, comforting dinner of Paneer Butter Masala and hot tandoori roti was absolute perfection. Have you ever taken a holy bath at Rameswaram or driven down to Kanyakumari?
