We set ourselves a massive challenge: exploring 6 ancient, breathtaking temples in a single day while making our way down to Madurai. We started our morning at the Thillai Nataraja Temple in Chidambaram, witnessing the cosmic dancer, Shiva. From there, we dove straight into the architectural marvels of the Chola Dynasty, visiting Gangaikonda Cholapuram and the Airavatesvara Temple—where the stone steps actually produce musical notes (Sa Re Ga Ma)! 🎶 The absolute highlight of the afternoon was the Brihadeeswara Temple (Big Temple) in Thanjavur. It is mind-blowing to see the 80-ton capstone that was placed at the very top over 1,000 years ago without any modern machines! After a quick recharge and a delicious South Indian meal at Sangeetham, we headed to Trichy. In Trichy, we experienced the water element at the Jambukeswarar Temple before stepping into the jaw-dropping Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple. Spread across 156 acres, it is the largest functioning Hindu temple in the world! 🛕 After an incredibly long day of walking and driving, the kids were exhausted, and we finally checked into Hotel Ramrathna in Madurai to rest up for tomorrow's big visit to the Meenakshi Amman Temple.
