Does PMOS lead to mental health problems? Or the modern day stresses are the culprits behind the onset of PCOS. Actually both are true. Modern day life styles, increased stress, expectations very early in life and societal pressures trigger the abnormal hormonal changes. Wrong diet and sedentary lifestyle further adds fuel to the problem. According to studies, women with PMOS are about 3 times more likely to experience depression and anxiety than people without it. In my clinical experience, 50 percent of PMOS patients report some kind of mental health issues like anxiety, stress, eating disorders, sleep problems and even panic attacks. PMOS requires a holistic treatment approach and a bigger component of that treatment is taking care of the mental health. The first step however is to accept the problem and then seek the right treatment. Remember, you are not alone in this journey! DISCLAIMER This video was recorded years ago, back when we commonly referred to this condition as PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). Even then, we were discussing insulin resistance as an important part of the condition. Today, the terminology has evolved to PMOS (Polycystic Ovary Morphology and Ovulatory Syndrome), but the underlying pathology and the importance of insulin resistance remain relevant.
