The words felt deeply personal from the moment I first read them, and that feeling never left me through the entire process of composing and arranging it. I spent a great deal of time with this one. You will hear the difference. Each sher is treated individually — the music, the raags, the hummings — all shaped to draw out the specific emotion of that verse rather than letting a single arrangement carry everything through. It was an immersive experience, and one I am deeply grateful for. I will also admit to a daring — a zurrat — that I hope Wasim Ji will forgive. I took the liberty of adjusting a few words here and there to better serve the music and the emotional direction I wanted to give this ghazal. And in the deepest moments of that immersion, I found myself adding a sher of my own.
