After the Kitten Comes the Cat 🇯🇵| Hiking in Kagawa, Japan

No money, just walking. An early morning in late summer. Today, I’m hiking four mountains in Manno, Kagawa — Koneko-yama, Nekoyama, Takamaruyama, and Shiroyama. Before the heat arrives, I walk through the quiet mountains of rural Japan. Along the way, I find a small spring, delicate Sagisō flowers, chestnuts, giant trees, and beautiful rice fields slowly turning golden as harvest approaches. Morning light filtering through the trees creates a beautiful and almost dreamlike atmosphere. Nekoyama brings a tougher climb. After the “kitten,” the “cat” is no joke. At the final mountain, Shiroyama, the ruins of Nishinagao Castle remain from Japan’s Warring States period. Four mountains. A peaceful summer morning. Just walking. Just breathing.
