Does it matter HOW we worship God—or only that our worship is sincere?
In Lesson 2, Part 3 of Let’s Study the Bible Together, Cynthia and I conclude our study by examining worship and asking what Scripture shows us about the practices of the early church.
▶️ Start Lesson 2 with Part 1: • What Is the Church? | Let’s Study the Bibl...
▶️ Watch Lesson 2, Part 2: • How Did God Organize the Church? | Let’s S...
This is our longest conversation in Lesson 2 because there is a LOT to examine.
We discuss the apostles’ teaching and the worship practices described in the New Testament, including gathering together, giving, the Lord’s Supper, and other elements of worship.
We also wrestle with some larger questions:
How do we identify the church Christ died for?
Does the name on a building determine whether a congregation belongs to Christ—or should we examine what that congregation actually teaches and practices?
What does it mean when Scripture describes God as adding people to His body rather than people simply “joining” a church?
And how much does obedience matter?
That leads us back to Noah.
God gave Noah specific instructions for the ark. Cynthia raises an important question: If Noah had decided to change those instructions and build it according to his own preferences, would that still have been obedience?
Only eight people ultimately entered the ark and survived the flood.
That leads to one of the strongest points in our conversation:
Numbers aren't what determine truth.
A congregation being large, popular, familiar, or culturally accepted doesn't by itself answer the question of whether its teaching and practices align with Scripture.
That is something each of us has to examine.
Cynthia and I don't simply sit here agreeing with one another throughout these studies. I ask questions. I challenge things. We follow additional Scriptures. Sometimes our conversation takes us somewhere neither of us expected.
That's exactly why we're inviting you to study WITH us.
Don't simply take Cynthia's word for it.
Don't take my word for it.
Open your Bible and examine the Scriptures for yourself.
