Kummer: Cello Duo No. 2 | Eunghee Cho & Joy Yanai, cellos

Friedrich August Kummer: Duet for Two Cellos No. 2 in G minor, Op. 22 I. Allegro 0:00 II. Un poco adagio 6:06 III. Rondo. Allegro 10:34 Eunghee Cho & Joy Yanai, cellos I strongly believe that my students should have access to high-quality recordings of their recitals, so I make an effort to record their performances whenever possible. After one such recording session, with my equipment already set up in the recital hall, I asked Joy if she would be willing to record one of our favorite cello duos on the spot, in whatever we happened to be wearing at that moment. The idea came about while preparing a program of cello duos with my cello studio at the University of Houston, where each pair was assigned a different work written for two cellos. One pair was assigned this particular duet, and I was surprised to find so few recordings of it on YouTube compared to its much more popular companion, No. 1. This piece is wonderful for intermediate and advanced students alike, as well as for professional cellists looking for an expressive and flashy work to include in a cello duo program. We hope this impromptu recording will encourage more cellists to discover this hidden gem of the cello repertoire! www.eunghee.com www.joyyanai.com
