TMEA Texas All-State 2026-2027 Cello Etude: Schroeder Etude No. 143 // Merk Etude No. 13 Joy Yanai, cello This etude combines challenging extended double stops with arpeggiated textures that demand both physical freedom and nuanced voice leading. Throughout the enture etude, the polyphony should progress naturally and expressively, despite the awkward left-hand extensions and arpeggiations. Before studying this etude, the player should be comfortable executing left-hand extensions with balance and ease and have a solid understanding of voice leading and phrase structure.
