A First Time Gardener Plants Her VERY FIRST Garden…

After all the work we’ve put into creating this new raised bed garden, the day has finally arrived… Kris gets to plant it! For the past 10 years, the kids and I have made Kris a garden for Mother’s Day. We would prepare the soil, plant a few vegetables, keep up with the weeds, and take care of most of the work. Kris did help with maintaining it along the way, but for the most part, all she had to do was walk out the back door and harvest fresh vegetables from the garden. But this year is different. This time, Kris is a first-time gardener. After moving our overwintered chestnut trees to make room for the new raised bed garden, we started from scratch. We built the raised beds, filled them with rotted wood as a base layer, and then sifted our own dirt to help save money on all the soil it would take to fill the beds. Now all that preparation is finally paying off. It’s time for Kris to plant her VERY FIRST garden and see what she can grow on her own. Will she enjoy being the gardener this time around?
