Good morning, friends! I haven’t been out in the garden in a week and apparently everything decided to go absolutely gangbusters while I was gone! I’ve got tomatoes, peppers, celery, pumpkins and even a few zucchini to pick, although I have to laugh because I planted one zucchini plant thinking I’d get plenty and I’ve gotten ONE zucchini. What’s up with that? The peppers, on the other hand, are a completely different story. I topped these plants earlier in the season and I am going to keep saying it because it worked! These things are loaded. I’ve got bell peppers, huge Cubanelles and enough peppers to make another batch of cowboy candy. The celery has been really beautiful too. I love growing celery at home because it’s just one of those things that smells and tastes so good when you grow it yourself. I’ll freeze dry the stalks and use the leaves for celery powder or celery salt. And I found some little baby plants starting up, so I’m going to leave those alone and see what happens. Then I headed up to the GreenStalks for what I’m calling the final herb harvest. I got stevia, oregano, rosemary, kale, cucumbers, a few carrots and some other odds and ends. The oregano absolutely showed off this year. I mean, look at that thing! I think I’m finally ready to start shutting things down for fall. I’ll pick the little onions, but the tomatoes, peppers and pumpkins can keep doing their thing for a while longer. Then everything else can go to the chickens and eventually back into the compost. And now, of course, the best part.
