Check out this massive Civil War cavalry clash in one of the best 19th Century combat simulation video games ever made. It’s Scourge of War – Gettysburg (REMASTERD) and this is the brand new Brandy Station DLC! Welcome to Alternate History Gaming! It’s where we’d try to replay history, but can’t – so it’s alternate history. BACKGROUND: We enter in, taking the reigns of Union & Confederate cavalry forces just before CSA General Robert E. Lee was to lead his Army of Northern Virginia into the upper Shenandoah Valley out north into Pennsylvania on the fateful road to his ultimate defeat at Gettysburg. Thanks, in large part, to CSA Gen. J.E.B. Stuart’s own vanity, Union forces were alerted to Confederate movements in early June. The Union Army of the Potomac, then still under the command of Joseph Hooker, still reeling from an injury sustained at the disastrous loss outside Chancellorsville the month prior, then jumped into action, commissioning an advance by USA Gen. Albert Pleasanton’s cavalry corps. Top Union generals believed a CSA cavalry drill & parade held by Stuart June 5th might be an indication of an upcoming CSA cavalry raid against Washington, D.C. This set Union forces in action, forcing their way across the upper Rappahannock River and toward a collision course with Confederate cavalry stationed to cover the river crossings and screen the AoNV’s movement west into the Valley. Union and Confederate cavalrymen would then clash throughout the day on June 9th, vying for control of Culpepper County, VA. If Union troopers are able to take the area, they will be able to spot – and possibly stop Lee’s planned invasion of the north. If CSA cavalry forces can hold, Lee can continue as planned without being harassed. Furthermore, if J.E.B. Stuart can achieve a crushing victory here at Brandy Station (as he had been used to doing against the Union cavalry all war long), he might NOT have acted so boldly and foolishly during the Gettysburg campaign. It should be an eventful stream! Please like, subscribe, comment, become a member – drop a super chat and enjoy!! Thank you as always for watching!
