How long should you stay loyal to a job when loyalty requires you to keep abandoning yourself?
In today’s episode of ReClaim Her, we examine the difference between being a committed employee and repeatedly betraying your own needs to preserve your relationship with a job.
Loyalty can reflect integrity, consistency, and a willingness to remain present during difficult seasons. However, it can become harmful when it requires you to ignore your health, silence your concerns, work beyond your capacity, neglect your relationships, or disconnect from who you are.
Experienced employees have understandable reasons for staying in difficult work environments. Income, health benefits, retirement, family responsibilities, professional relationships, and years of service all matter. Some employees also remember when the workplace felt different and keep hoping it will return to what it once was.
This episode is not about telling you to quit your job. It is about helping you honestly examine what your loyalty has given you, what it is costing you now, and whether that loyalty is being returned to you.
Organizations make decisions based on their business needs. You can also make decisions based on your health, family, finances, values, and future. Considering yourself does not make you disloyal.
As you watch, reflect on these questions: What has my loyalty given me? What is it costing me now? What would loyalty to myself require in this season?
