Joining us from Northern Alberta Dr. Bork will discuss how agricultural land management can be enhanced to increase carbon storage – an important strategy to mitigate climate change. LEPS is working on an initiative in South Langley and Abbotsford about water quality and land management practices in the Nooksack River tributaries and the Little Campbell River, and the impact that the water quality in these creeks is having on the traditional shellfish harvest where they reach the ocean. Fecal coliforms have closed the harvest for many years, in part due to Langley and Abbotsford from improperly managed septic systems, discarded pet waste and inadequate manure management. The Collaborative Transboundary Water Quality project is funded through the Government of Canada EcoAction Community Funding Program.
