Very little information about Oakland or Your Breath Is A Curse appears to survive online. I have been unable to locate the band's original MySpace page, location, lineup, complete tracklist, or even the original source from which I obtained these files. Searching for a band named “Oakland” has also been about as productive as you might imagine. The city of Oakland is doing an excellent job of ensuring that this band remains undiscoverable. Four tracks survive in my archive. Their original embedded metadata consistently identifies the artist as Oakland and the album as Your Breath Is A Curse, with track numbers 1, 2, 5 and 7: 1. [0:00] There's No Basement At The Alamo 2. [5:47] Gravedigger 5. [9:59] Snake Charmer 7. [13:22] Insperatus This means at least tracks 3, 4 and 6 are currently missing. The files contain media-creation dates ranging from September 2008 to March 2009, and all four share the same modification timestamp of March 9, 2009. This suggests that these surviving files were together by that point, although this should not be interpreted as a confirmed release date. The original artwork also survives and is included here. Unfortunately, that is where the investigation currently crashes into a brick wall. I have searched the release title, individual song titles, combinations of those titles, old Blogspot/Blogger and WordPress pages, my usual archival sources and even my own old emails trying to figure out where the hell I originally obtained this. Nothing. At some point in the past I apparently downloaded four songs by a band called Oakland, carefully preserved them for years, and neglected to leave my future self even the slightest indication of where they came from. Excellent work. If you recognize Oakland, were involved with the band, or still have any of the missing recordings, please get in touch. Information about the band's location, members, original release date and the identities of tracks 3, 4 and 6 would be especially valuable. At this point I would also simply appreciate confirmation that Oakland consisted of actual human beings. Until somebody recognizes them, this upload represents everything I have been able to recover from Your Breath Is A Curse. Four songs, one piece of artwork, several useful timestamps, three conspicuous holes in the tracklist, and absolutely no idea who made any of it. Please download and preserve anything shared here. Apparently keeping the files themselves was the easy part. Remembering where they came from was the boss fight.
