What did Jesus actually mean when he said, “Do not judge”? Matthew 7:1–6 is one of Jesus’ most quoted teachings, but it is also one of the easiest to misunderstand. In this message, Adrian explores Jesus’ teaching on judgement, beginning with the challenge to look at the “plank” in our own eye before trying to remove the “speck” from someone else’s. But Jesus isn't simply telling us to ignore what is wrong. Adrian looks at the difference between judging someone and judging well, and what happens when “do not judge” is used to shut down accountability, protect hypocrisy, silence victims or attack anyone who raises a difficult question. Jesus takes sin seriously. But he also calls us to humility — to take Jesus seriously without taking ourselves too seriously.
