From Gatlinburg to the TOP of the Smoky Mountains! 🏔️ | Kuwohi (Clingmans Dome) Adventure

Last weekend, we took an unforgettable trip from Gatlinburg to Kuwohi, formerly known as Clingmans Dome, the highest peak in Great Smoky Mountains National Park! 🌲✨ Join us as we enjoy the beautiful mountain drive, lush forests, winding roads, and a hike to the famous observation tower for breathtaking panoramic views of the Smoky Mountains. The journey itself is a wonderful experience, with stunning natural scenery along the way. We then hike uphill on the paved trail to reach the iconic observation tower and enjoy the incredible mountain landscape from above. If you love nature, scenic drives, hiking, and peaceful mountain views, this adventure is for you! 📍 DESTINATION DETAILS & VISITOR INFORMATION 🏔️ Location: Kuwohi, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, near Gatlinburg, Tennessee. 🚗 How to Get There: From Gatlinburg, drive south on US-441/Newfound Gap Road and follow the signs for Kuwohi Road (formerly Clingmans Dome Road). The road leads to the summit parking area. Allow extra time to enjoy the scenic drive. 🥾 Hiking Information: The paved trail to the observation tower is approximately 1 mile round trip from the parking area. The path is short but steep, so take your time, wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring water. 🅿️ Parking: Parking is available at the Kuwohi trailhead, but spaces can be limited, especially during busy periods. Arriving early can help you avoid crowds. 🎟️ Entrance Fee: Great Smoky Mountains National Park does not charge an entrance fee. However, a parking tag is required for vehicles parked for more than 15 minutes: Daily parking tag: $5 Weekly parking tag: $15 Annual parking tag: $40 🌦️ Weather Tips: Temperatures at the summit can be much colder than in Gatlinburg. Bring a jacket, check the weather forecast, and be prepared for changing conditions. 📅 Seasonal Road Access: Kuwohi Road is scheduled to be open to vehicles from April 1 through November 29 in 2026, weather permitting. Snow, ice, or other hazardous conditions may cause temporary closures.
